Things to do in Poblenou: a guide to the neighbourhood

Poblenou was once Barcelona’s major industrial district and today is a mix of old factories, designer buildings, beaches and a promenade with a village-like atmosphere. It is the neighbourhood of The High Class, on Carrer de Pujades. Here’s what we recommend you see.
La Rambla del Poblenou
It’s the heart of the neighbourhood: a quiet promenade, lined with terraces, ice-cream parlours and local shops, which leads down to the sea. It’s ideal for a stroll and a drink away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
The industrial past and the 22@
Poblenou was known as the «Catalan Manchester» because of its concentration of factories. You can still see brick chimneys and industrial buildings that have been converted into offices, studios and cultural spaces within the technology district 22@.
Culture: Can Framis and the Cementiri
- Can Framis Museum: Contemporary Catalan art in a converted old factory.
- Poblenou Cemetery: one of the city’s oldest cemeteries, featuring mausoleums and sculptures. The most famous is The Kiss of Death (The Kiss of Death).
Parks and design
- Poblenou Centre Park: a contemporary park with living walls and shaded areas.
- Glòries: The Torre Glòries and the Museu del Disseny are just a short walk away.
The beaches
Poblenou has direct access to some of Barcelona’s quietest beaches, such as Bogatell y Mar Bella. Mind you, you’re not allowed to smoke on the beach: we’ll explain why in Is smoking allowed on the beach in Barcelona?
How to get there
The most convenient underground stations are Gap y Poblenou (L4), and the Glòries area (L1). There are also several bus and tram routes along the Diagonal.
Remember
Consuming cannabis in the street or on the beach is a criminal offence. The High Class is a private association, open only to members aged 18 and over and by invitation only.
