Barcelona will be the first Spanish city to offer a postgraduate course dedicated to cannabis. On November 11, 2022, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) will launch the first edition of the postgraduate course in Cannabis Production and Transformation Technologies.
A project that shows how Barcelona continues betting on the growth of the cannabis industry, not only by allowing weed clubs like ours, but also by offering these kinds of options, like the first cannabis postgrad course or the first European Hub dedicated to cannabis.
In fact, the postgraduate degree in cannabis is developed by the UPC and the CannabisHub together, with the idea of offering a valuable tool to people who want to specialise in cannabis research and production at an industrial level.
The cannabis market, both for recreational and medicinal use, is experiencing a phase of strong expansion: it is estimated that in 2026 the sector could reach 25 billion euros.
This translates into thousands of jobs that will be created worldwide, especially when it comes to cultivation techniques, scientific research and sales channels.
Professions such as "cannabis cultivation and export manager" or "marketing director of the cannabis sector" are some of the professional opportunities that the postgraduate will focus on.
"THE COURSE HAS A COST OF 4,300€ AND WILL BE DEVELOPED IN A HYBRID FORM: THE CLASSES WILL BE ON FRIDAYS FROM 4:00 PM TO 9:00 PM AND ON SATURDAYS FROM 9:00 AM TO 2:00 PM. THE POSTGRADUATE PROVIDES 160 CLASS HOURS AND 25 ECTS CREDITS. - INFORMATION EXTRACTED FROM THE UPC WEBSITE."
As said before, the subjects cover various topics. "Agricultural Production Technology" is one of those, of course, but also "Marketing, Digital Transformation and Innovation in the Cannabis Industry" or "Quality Management and Analysis Systems", with a complete approach to what the legal cannabis market is.
Joan Simó, biologist, doctor in agri-food engineering and Academic director of the postgraduate course in cannabis declares that "The idea is to be able to offer students tools and give a technological vision of the trends in the sector".
The idea is that graduates from the course can be trained by some of the best professionals in the sector and by great specialists, and have a realistic and future vision of what this plant allows in its different levels of use".
Barcelona is confirmed to be among the most progressive European cities in terms of cannabis and not only from the point of view of consumption.
The business mentality that always distinguishes the capital of Catalunya made possible the birth of a postgraduate course that ensures specific training for all those who wish to work in the world of cannabis.
