Does cannabis improve sex?
The debate on whether cannabis enhances sexual experiences is not new. Already in the 1970s, many studies were published linking cannabis use with improved sexual activity, both quantitatively and qualitatively.

The truth is that the relationship between cannabis and sex has not been widely studied due to laws prohibiting its use in most countries of the world.
In recent years, there has been a progressive liberalisation of cannabis, which, in addition to increasing the number of cannabis users, has cannabis associations in cities such as Barcelonahas also accelerated scientific research on the effects of this substance on sex. Most studies on the subject are based on the direct experiences of users. This means that the representative sample of each study has an important influence on the results.
Can cannabis increase sexual desire and activity?
A very interesting example is the Stanford University studywhich states that cannabis use can increase sexual desire and sexual activity.
In this case, the interviewees are regular users, who claim that the use of the substance improves their mood at the time of sexual intercourse. It reduces anxiety and enhances the senses.
However, other studies show the exact opposite results, especially in occasional users. They may experience increased anxiety, decreased sexual desire, drowsiness, lack of concentration and, in the case of men, erectile dysfunction and difficulty reaching orgasm.
Why are the results of these studies so different from each other?
The answer is quite clear. To date, there is no scientific evidence to support the claim that cannabis enhances or affects sexual activity in humans. It may modify the sexual experience, but whether this is positive or negative cannot be scientifically determined. What can be inferred is that the relationship between cannabis and sex depends very much on the end user.
In many cases, a regular cannabis user could benefit from cannabis to have better sexual experiences, enjoying the relaxing effects of THC. For example, reducing anxiety to improve sexual performance or even prolonging the duration of the encounter are some of the possible advantages. However, it should also be considered that an occasional cannabis user might be affected in his or her mood.
It is also interesting to note that in many studies there is a proportion of respondents who say that cannabis use does not affect sexual activity in any way, either positively or negatively. Therefore, the best summary that can be made about cannabis use during sex is: to each his own. If you like it, enjoy it; if it affects you, don't force yourself.
